The Seeed Studio XIAO series represents the latest evolution in compact microcontroller development, offering three powerful variants: ESP32-C6, ESP32-S3 Sense, and ESP32-C3. Each board maintains the classic XIAO form factor while delivering unique capabilities for diverse IoT applications.
Enhanced Connectivity and Matter Support
The XIAO ESP32-C6 stands out with its comprehensive wireless connectivity, combining 2.4GHz Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), Bluetooth 5.0, and IEEE 802.15.4 radio connectivity for Thread and Zigbee protocols. This enhanced connectivity makes it natively compatible with Matter-compliant smart home projects, ensuring seamless interoperability across different platforms and devices.
Advanced Processing Power
The series features different processor architectures optimized for specific use cases. The ESP32-C6 incorporates dual 32-bit RISC-V processors with the high-performance core running up to 160 MHz and a low-power core clocking up to 20 MHz. The ESP32-S3 utilizes an Xtensa LX7 dual-core, 32-bit processor running up to 240 MHz, while the ESP32-C3 features a RISC-V single-core 32-bit processor with four-stage pipeline operating at up to 160 MHz.
Memory and Storage Options
Memory configurations vary across the series to meet different application requirements. The ESP32-C6 offers 512KB SRAM and 4MB Flash, the ESP32-C3 provides 400KB SRAM and 4MB Flash, while the ESP32-S3 Sense features the most generous 8MB PSRAM and 8MB Flash, with additional SD card slot support for up to 32GB FAT storage.
Specialized Features
The ESP32-S3 Sense variant includes advanced sensing capabilities with a detachable OV2640 camera sensor supporting 1600x1200 resolution (compatible with OV5640), integrated digital microphone, and pre-trained AI models from SenseCraft AI for no-code deployment. This makes it ideal for embedded machine learning applications including intelligent voice and vision AI projects.
Power Management
All variants feature sophisticated power management with multiple operating modes. Deep sleep power consumption ranges from 14-44 μA depending on the model, while supporting lithium battery charge management with 100mA charging current. The boards operate from 5V via USB Type-C or 4.2V via battery input.

The XIAO series integrates seamlessly with the Grove ecosystem through compatible expansion boards, providing access to over 400 Grove modules. Free courses and starter kits are available for beginners, while advanced users can leverage Arduino, MicroPython, and CircuitPython support.
