- Tea Garden Environmental and Cultivation Management
Project background and needs
Nibiaa, based in India's northeastern tea region, works to turn agricultural research into tools farmers can use, addressing the pressure that climate change, rising costs, and traditional farming methods place on tea production.
Quality and Input Costs
- Tea production was affected by climate uncertainty and rising costs.
- Improper pesticide and fertilizer use and residue issues affected exports.
Cultivation management needed monitoring data.
Carbon Credit Data
- Tea gardens have carbon sequestration potential.
- Capturing carbon credit opportunities required accurate data recording and validation.
An environmental data collection and analysis system needed to be built.
Solution and architecture
Tea Garden Sensing
The field trial collected CO2, temperature, humidity, soil EC, light, and rainfall data using SenseCAP sensors and an optical rain gauge.
Remote Management
Nibiaa built dashboards from the sensor data for remote viewing by garden managers; carbon footprint and carbon credit assessment is a strategic direction.
