Project background and needs
Texas engineer Jordan Broome integrated reTerminal DM into a thermal-imaging fire detection system, using temperature thresholds to trigger a buzzer, SMS notification, and automated outputs.
Outdoor Reliability
- The product is designed for outdoor use.
- The device needed to operate long-term in harsh environments.
A durable terminal suited for outdoor use was needed.
Display and Remote Response
- The system needed to connect to both local control and remote management.
- The human-machine interface needed to clearly display real-time temperature.
Onsite temperature display needed to be combined with remote alerting.
Solution and architecture
Temperature Sensing
An Ethernet-based thermal camera provides video, and HEATSYNC identifies the hottest spot and displays current and historical temperature.
Alert Integration
When a user-set threshold is exceeded, reTerminal DM activates the buzzer, triggers outputs, and sends a notification to the server that becomes an SMS alert.
