Success case
SenseCAP LoRaWAN Innovation for SDGs: Sweet Melons Grown at Smart Agriculture Demonstration Park in Beihai, China
Smart Agriculture Demonstration Park Project deployed Seeed’s SenseCAP LoRaWAN gateway and sensors for precision agriculture in a greenhouse of sweet melons, which is located in Beihai City of Southern China. Through the IIoT solution, improved resource efficiency and economic productivity have been observed, through which the Project seeks to achieve the UN’s SDGs 13, 3, 17, 10, 11, 9, 8, 2, 1, 4, 6, 7 and 12.

- Sweet-melon greenhouse environment
Project background and needs
The Smart Agriculture Demonstration Park in Yinhai District, Beihai, Guangxi, piloted SenseCAP sensors and a LoRaWAN gateway in a sweet-melon greenhouse, providing environmental monitoring data to farmers and agricultural experts.
- The local government partnered with Seeed, the Guangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and a Beijing-based system integrator on the smart agriculture pilot.
Growing conditions
- Sweet melons are an environmentally sensitive crop.
- Cultivation depends on proper soil moisture, temperature, light, and ventilation.
Needs precise monitoring of greenhouse environmental parameters.
Resources and labor
- The project aims to reduce waste of natural resources.
- The project also needs to lower labor input and raise crop yield.
Needs environmental data to support irrigation and climate management.
Solution and architecture
Greenhouse sensing
Air temperature/humidity, soil moisture/temperature, light, and CO2 sensors collect greenhouse data.
Cloud management
Data travels through the LoRaWAN gateway to a cloud platform, where farmers and experts monitor in real time and optimize irrigation, climate, and harvest timing.
