Success case
Smart Greenhouse for Sustainable Agriculture: SenseCAP LoRaWAN Enables Tropical Fruit Cultivation in Northern China
Laiwu Tropical Fruit Cultivation Project portrays a successful case of our SenseCAP LoRaWAN series applied to smart greenhouse farming of tropical fruits in Northern China. Through this Project, Northern farmers are equipped with new knowledge on automated greenhouse control, and the value of precision farming. By doing so, the Project can positively influence the UN’s SDGs 10, 2, 1, 8, 9, 12, 11, 16, 13 and 17.

Project background and needs
The tropical fruit greenhouse pilot in Laiwu, Shandong, explores 'Planting Southern Fruits in the North,' using AI and IoT greenhouse equipment to monitor the environment and manage crop growth under northern climate conditions.
Climate Simulation
- The northern climate is not naturally suited to growing tropical fruit.
- The wax apple trial required precise environmental control, or fruit quality would suffer.
The greenhouse growing environment needed real-time monitoring and adjustment.
Management Cost
- Manual management was costly.
- Fertilizing, ventilation, temperature, and irrigation needed automated management.
Environmental data needed to be integrated with the control system.
Solution and architecture
Sensing and Cloud
SenseCAP monitors CO2, light, soil temperature, VWC, EC, and PAR, uploading data through a LoRaWAN gateway to the cloud and displaying it on the partner's data platform.
Greenhouse Control
Threshold triggers activate irrigation and fertilizing, ventilation cooling, and thermal blanket opening/closing, adjusting the growing environment together with the greenhouse facilities.
