Smart Poultry Farm in Canada: Enhancing Production Efficiency and Animal Welfare with AIoT Technologies
To address the challenges of inefficient practices, animal health, and consumer demands for transparency in poultry farming industries, our partner DunavNET collaborated with Axceta and deployed the poultryNET, an IoT/AI-based solution powered by Seeed Studio SenseCAP LoRaWAN devices in the Montreal area in the poultry barns of Sollio Agriculture to revolutionize the poultry farming industry. Project background and needs
DunavNET and Axceta deployed poultryNET in Sollio Agriculture's poultry barns in the Montreal area, combining sensors and video to monitor environment, flock behavior, and operational parameters.
Continuous tracking
- Environment, growth progress, and flock behavior all require continuous monitoring.
- A shrinking pool of experienced farm workers makes management harder.
Needs to automatically collect farm parameters and flag anomalies promptly.
Transparent traceability
- Consumers want to know both food quality and its origin.
- The supply chain needs to record relevant parameters in a trustworthy, transparent way.
Needs to keep verifiable production data.
Solution and architecture
Environmental and operational monitoring
SenseCAP LoRaWAN sensors and gateways monitor light, CO2, temperature/humidity, and select water and feed consumption data.
Edge vision
IP cameras capture flock footage, and edge models on Jetson AGX Orin estimate weight and assess behavior.
Management and traceability
poultryNET combines edge, cloud, and domain knowledge to issue alerts, and records verifiable data in a decentralized knowledge graph.
