Parking Entry & Exit Vehicle Counting

Count vehicles in and out with the gate cameras you already have, and keep the free-space count live.

Count vehicles in and out at a car park entrance with the existing IP camera, and publish vehicles inside and free spaces over MQTT.

Seeed LabAdvanced60minVision & Video AI

Entry/exit counting on a reComputer J30 Series: vehicle #48 before the line, 1/120 inside, 24 in and 23 out today (synthetic test clip, one vehicle)

The same vehicle after crossing: today's exits 23 → 24, 0/120 inside (synthetic test clip, one vehicle)

Reusable Site Templates

Places where vehicles enter and leave through fixed lanes and you need to know how many spaces are left.

Mall and office car parks

The entrance sign shows free spaces and follows every entry and exit; at zero it switches to "Full".

Campus and factory gates

Count daily vehicle traffic, with trucks and cars told apart by vehicle type.

Several entrances combined

Deploy one set per entrance; your system sums the whole car park by site ID.

One set takes one camera, covering one entrance. RK3588 hosts suit barrier gates where vehicles slow down or stop before passing.

How well it works

What you see on the counting host's browser preview page once it is running.

Line-crossing count

  • Each vehicle crossing the line counts as one entry or exit
  • Each vehicle has a track ID; in and out are counted apart

Live free-space count

  • Vehicles inside and free spaces update after every crossing
  • Shows today's totals for entries and exits
Measured results

Input is a synthetic test clip: one vehicle image moving back and forth across the line on a grey background, not site footage.

On an RK3588 host a vehicle has to stay in view for about 1 s or longer around the line to be counted reliably, which suits barrier gates. For per-device latency, resource usage and benchmark data, see Engineering Wiki · Parking Entry/Exit Vehicle Counting.

How to deploy

Check the setup and its product list, then follow the deployment guide.

Deployment Options

IP Camera + Edge Compute Box

Keep your entrance camera and add a reComputer next to it. reComputer J30 / J40 (Jetson Orin Nano / Orin NX, JetPack 6.2), RK3588 or RK3576. Measured on Orin Nano and RK3576, 30 frames per second; RK3588 about 3, suited to barrier entrances where vehicles slow down.

Integration Interfaces

mqtt

One record per vehicle crossing the line - direction (in/out), vehicle type, vehicles inside and free spaces after it. Sent to your own MQTT server.

Port: 1883 · Topic: <site>/parking/<entrance>/crossing
mqtt

Vehicles inside, total spaces, free spaces and today's in/out totals, sent after every crossing.

Port: 1883 · Topic: <site>/parking/<entrance>/occupancy
http

Service status - whether the camera picture is being received and how many frames per second are processed.

/healthz · Port: 8099 · Method: GET

Usage Requirements

rtsp

An IP camera at the entrance with an RTSP stream (H.264 or H.265), mounted so vehicles cross the picture fully in view.
