Not a fit: running two apps at the same moment, or pooling many cameras onto one host for central analysis.

How it works

The camera works on its own. To bring results into Home Assistant, add one machine running Home Assistant and an MQTT broker.

One app at a time: starting an app stops the previous one without uninstalling it, and switching back is a click. On reCamera 2002, installing the console stops the existing Node-RED flow.

All inference runs on the camera, and video and results stay on the local network. How well each app detects depends on placement, light and distance; check it on the live preview at the site before going live.

Discovery carries results, not video; for a picture in Home Assistant, add the RTSP address through the Generic Camera integration. In Home Assistant, a Picture glance card puts the video and detection entities together, and an Entity → State trigger starts an automation.

Besides running apps, what else does the camera have to do on site? The two cameras share most apps, but NVR discovery and weather classification are on reCamera only, and voice transcription is on reCamera Pro only.

  • reCamera

    reCamera 2002 runs the app gallery, RTSP, ONVIF and its own MQTT broker. Point it at the Home Assistant you already run and the running app's entities appear on their own.

FAQ

Yes. Inference runs on the camera, and Home Assistant and the broker run on your own machine. Internet is needed only to install apps, and it is the computer running the deployer that goes online, not the camera.
