Project background and needs
A software system integrator specializing in data security worked with Seeed to deploy a customized reTerminal handheld HMI for forest rangers in Indonesia, used to control cameras for taking and storing photos.
Manual Recording Burden
- Forest monitoring previously relied on manual labor and manual recording.
- Data collection took significant time and physical effort with insufficient timeliness.
Needed to improve data collection and transmission efficiency.
Outdoor Operating Conditions
- The device needs to work in high/low temperature and rainy environments.
- Readability in strong sunlight and low power consumption for long-term use were also required.
Needed a display and structural design suited to outdoor patrol use.
Solution and architecture
Customized Handheld Device
The CM4-based reTerminal removes front panel buttons, uses IP65-rated panel material, and increases screen brightness.
Patrol Data Collection
Paired with the customer's expansion board, it controls forest cameras via LoRa to take photos at set intervals, storing images locally for later analysis.
